Why would the Ancestors abandon us like this? What could we have done to offend?

It's not entirely their mess; they did not leave the frenting rod behind intentionally. Not much they can do about it until/unless they figure out how to drive their new "car".
On the other hand, they still have another frenting rod if they end up leaving without returning…
