5: On Deeds
Chax: When will you receive your name?
Aun: I got mine when I was born.
Chax: What? That is a great pity. How awful for you!
Aun: Why?
Chax: Because your deeds are prescribed for you. What if you cannot achieve what your name says you must? How could you bear the shame?
Aun: The same way I’ve borne everything so far, I suppose. On my back.
(A small creature flies in and perches on a branch of a thin tree.)
Chax: May I ask what this name is?
Aun: Sure you can. I’m Aun.
Chax: Aun!? That’s it? AUN?
Aun: That’s all of it.
Chax: That’s different! With such a brief name, you can’t’ve been meant to accomplish anything worthwhile in your life.
Aun: Ai, don’t be so quick to judge me!
Chax: Oh, I will surely take my time in assessing your character. Unlike your elders.
(Aun walks off in anger)
